Training on What & How of Organic Farming - सेंद्रिय खेती

Organic farming is a holistic system evolved over a period of time which optimizes the productivity and sustainability of various components of the ecosystem, such as soil organisms, plants, livestock and people. Organic farming is a method of crop and livestock production that involves much more than choosing not to use pesticides, fertilizers, genetically modified organisms, antibiotics and growth hormones. The main goal of organic farming is to develop various constituents that are sustainable and harmonious with the ecology.

Organic Farming stops Environmental Exposure to Pesticides and Chemicals
Today most of the farming is done using chemical fertilisers and pesticides. Which may produce quick results for a while but eventually is counterproductive. As Pesticides and chemicals sprayed on plants contaminate the soil, water supply, and air. Sometimes these harmful pesticides stick around for decades (at times even longer). Organic Farming propagates natural fertilisers; eg. Vermicompost - Kechua Khat and natural pesticide; eg. Amrut Pani. What’s important, that Organic supplements don’t use any chemicals to boost agricultural production.

Organic Farming Builds Healthy Soil
Chemical fertilizer usage has destroyed topsoil along with disturbing loss of micronutrients and minerals in fruits and vegetables. Feeding the soil with organic matter instead of ammonia and other synthetic fertilizers has proven to increase nutrients in produce, with higher levels of vitamins and minerals. Many modern studies have shown that organic farming builds up organic soil matter better than current way of farming.

Organic Farming Helps Combat Erosion
Not only does organic farming build healthy soil, but it helps combat serious soil and land issues, such as erosion. Research comparing two adjoining organic and chemically treated cotton fields showed that the organic field retained several more inches of topsoil than the chemically treated farm.
Organic Farming Supports Water Conservation and Water Health
Dwindling water supplies and polluted water health are very real threats. Once our water supply is at risk, we all facing impending danger. One of the major water pollution threats to our water bodies is drained water from non-organic farms, such as harmful pesticides and toxic fertilizers. Organic farming helps keep our water supplies clean by stopping that polluted runoff. Organic farming also helps conserve water. Organic farmers, in general, tend to spend time amending soil correctly and using mulch - both of which help conserve water.

Organic Farming Supports Animal Health and Welfare
Insects, birds, fish and all sorts of other critters experience problems when humans swoop in and destroy their natural habitat. Organic farming not only helps preserve more natural habitat areas but also encourages birds and other natural predators to live happily on farmland, which assists in natural pest control.
Additionally, animals which live on organic farms are exposed to clean, chemical free grazing that helps keep them naturally healthy and resistant to illness. As a perk for organic farmers, happy and healthy organic animals are productive organic animals.

Organic Farming Encourages Biodiversity
In general, the more biodiversity there is on a farm, the more stable the farm is. Organic farming encourages healthy biodiversity, which plays a critical role in how resilient, or not, a farm is to issues like bad weather, disease, and pests. Additionally, reduced biodiversity may directly correlate with a rise in infectious diseases, which of course, isn't good for people or the planet.

It is thus very important for farmers to adapt to Organic Way of farming and boost not only the yield but also enhance soil health.
